Sister Cities International would like to congratulate Alexander P. Durtka, Jr. President, Japan-America Society of Wisconsin; President & CEO, International Institute of Wisconsin; Board Member, Wisconsin-Chiba, Inc. for being awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette. The Conferment ceremony and dinner in his honor will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
Al is being recognized for his dedication and passion in promoting friendly relations between Japan and the United States, specifically through the Wisconsin-Chiba sister state relationship. His role in promoting exchanges between Japan and the United States has resulted in a mutual understanding of both cultures within local communities.
The Order of the Rising Sun is one of the most prestigious honors foreign nationals can receive from the Government of Japan. The award recognizes those who have played a key role in promoting strong relations with Japan.
Al serves as Wisconsin State Representative for Sister Cities International and is also a member of SCI’s Honorary Board Alumni Association.
