Sister Cities International Honors Robert Dole, Timothy Chorba, and Connie Morella in Celebration of 60th Anniversary at the 2016 Diplomatic Leadership Awards Reception

Washington, DC (September 6, 2016) – On Sister Cities International’s (SCI) official 60th Anniversary, September 12, 2016, the organization will honor three prolific individuals, the Honorable Robert J. Dole, former U.S. Senator and Presidential Candidate, the Honorable Timothy Chorba, former U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, and the Honorable Connie Morella, former U.S. Congresswoman and U.S. Ambassador to OECD for their contributions on U.S.-global relations and citizen diplomacy.

SCI was founded by President Dwight Eisenhower at the White House Conference on Citizen Diplomacy September 11-12, 1956. The organization was established with a mission to “promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation – one individual, one community at a time.” SCI has celebrated their 60th Anniversary throughout 2016, most recently with the 60th Anniversary Annual Conference in Washington, DC, where over 500 Conference attendees and 115 Youth Leadership Summit delegates gathered to discuss the importance of peace through people.

“We’re thrilled to award three outstanding individuals as we celebrate SCI’s 60th Anniversary. Celebrating our Anniversary exactly 60 years after President Eisenhower established the organization is a great privilege, and we are excited to continue to honor the power of citizen diplomacy through people-to-people exchanges over the next 60 years,” said Mary D. Kane, SCI President and CEO.

The organization will recognize the Awardees as they celebrate their 60th Anniversary during the 2016 Diplomatic Leadership Awards Reception on Monday, September 12 at the Embassy of Finland (3301 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC) at 6:00pm.
